Paper for HCI ‘95 Anthropomorphism and Persuasion

چکیده

Interface agents are semi-autonomous software entities that perform tasks on behalf of their users. One of the attributes an agent may possess is anthropomorphism. Could an anthropomorphic agent make people believe information that was not true? This paper describes an experiment that investigated the effect the source of a piece of information (i.e. person or computer) had on whether people believed it. Eighty subjects completed a multiple-choice comprehension test on World War II. The subjects were given a mixture of true and false information which they were told was produced by a person or a computer. The results showed that the source of the information did not make a statistically significant difference to whether they believed it.
